Born Again: Politics

"Born-Again Politics" is a national issue at the present moment. Newsweek, with a front-page cover, and they only have 52 of them in a year, featured the headline, "Born-Again Politics." And on it was the word, "VOTE," v - o - t - e, and the "T" was accentuated to where it came up in the form of a cross.
Being born again was initiated by President Carter four years ago, and the three presidential candidates in 1980 - Carter, Reagan, and Anderson - all claim that they are born again. Newsweek put this on the newsstands of the world.
The moment I saw the thrust of it, I realized what it means in our country. We must rise to the hour, meet the issue. We are among the Fundamentalists. We are Christians. We are patriotic. Here in this church of ours we observe Thanksgiving, the 4th of July and other occasions. We constantly emphasize the fact that in our faith and our belief we stand where the Pilgrims stood and have the same concepts of liberty. Your pastor has written a whole book on "The Author of Liberty." I feel that the Bible-believing people, the Fundamental people, have had a tendency to withdraw and let things go. There are various reasons for that. One that I certainly take great issue with is that the Lord is coming soon, so why worry? That is a vicious repudiation of the Scripture.
Another one is that we are weary of struggle. But you cannot be weary, not when the issues at stake concern our liberty and our beloved country.
There are still others. Some Fundamentalists have been subject to a very obtuse idea of separation of church and state: Since we are Christians, and very strong Christians, we ought not to get involved in any of these political affairs. That is another erroneous and very, very deceptive statement. Then there are still others, Christians who just do not want to get involved. We are said to be separate from the world, and getting involved in politics is worldly, they say. There is another obtuse and very vicious thesis that some good people have embraced.
These things need to be clarified, and they must be clarified by the ordinary Christian.
I. What the Bible Says About "Born Again"
The first thing incumbent upon us to set forth very clearly is "Born-Again Politics," what the Bible says about it. Second, I want to see what the Confession of our Church says about the civil magistrate and our responsibility for him. Third, I would like to touch on the Constitution of the United States itself, with which we are all familiar, and several of these references like "In God We Trust," and "One nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, and show their relevance in contrast to this idea that we must withdraw and that the Fundamental people ought not to become involved in politics.
I would like to get into the area of application: What it means to be born again. A born-again person is supposed to act in certain ways. Faith is always followed by good works. And you have the total impact of an individual's conduct and his total life. All this flows from the new birth for every Christian.
Then, I would like, as we come to the close, to get very specific. I want to name some names. Let us see how this is applicable not only to us locally but nationally, and how we as Christians simply have to be aware of what is developing in our nation.
I took as the text this beautiful one in I Peter, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed." That means that the birth we are talking about here is not related to the day we were born physically into this earth. Our mothers gave us birth, we were tiny babies. Here in the new birth we were born of incorruptible seed by the Word of God, and the seed is identified specifically and clearly as the Word of God. Then in verse 24, "For all flesh is as grass." All those who are born the first time are like the grass, "and all the glory of man as the flower of grass." In just a few years it fades. "The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the [incorruptible seed, that is, the Word of God] word of the Lord endureth for ever." So we are entering an area here where the Bible says that a new birth, a born-again experience, is produced not by any human means, or any human power, or any human generation. It is produced by the Word of God alone.
In the Gospel according to John, chapter 1, we are told that the Lord Jesus Christ "came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of , blood [now that is what Peter has just said] nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Being born of God is the reality of that verse.
In the first epistle of John and the fifth chapter, verse 1, we see some connections now that are going to be valuable to us as we progress with our responsibility. "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God." I have taken you to First Peter, chapter 1, verse 23; taken you to John, chapter 1, verse 13; and now we come to I John, chapter 5, verse 1.
You and I believe that, and we are born again; we are born of God. "Every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments" (v. 2).
Now you see the progression along which we have led you just in the Bible. Here is Peter's reference to being born again, here is John's reference, "He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sgns of God." "Born again" is identified with the sons of God. The Son of God is identified with the believer, and the believer believes in Jesus Christ; and one who believes in Jesus Christ is going to seek to honor and keep the commands of Jesus Christ. Now what could be plainer than that in the Bible?
Now what I am trying to say is that every true Christian has to be born again in order to be a Christian, and anyone that is not born again is not a Christian. It is just as simple as that. Of course, the word Christian today is used in various ways; and it has been debauched in many circles, but not in our circles, not in the circles where those of us who are standing true to the Bible are.
We are Fundamentalists
Because we take this clear stand as I am outlining to you, we today are called Fundamentalists. That is the word. It came out of the controversy back in the teens and the twenties and we have carried it on through, and we are the Fundamentalists. We do not make any distinction between a Fundamentalist and a Christian. They are both the same. We do not make any distinction between the Fundamentalist, the evangelical, and the Christian.
Back there in the earlier days when we were organizing things and I was writing my books, I said that in the controversy that we were engaged in we were not going to give up the word Christian.
The American Council of Christian Churches, the International Council of Christian Churches, Christian Beacon - the efforts to call it a Fundamentalist Beacon we laid those all aside because we were not going to surrender the word Christian to the liberals or to anyone. We are Bible believing. We are Christian. We are Fundamentalists.
And consequently with us it is all one beautiful, glorious revelation which we accept.
However, in our day, the word Christian means many things. The word Fundamentalist is put off here on the side and they try to disdain it. The word evangelical has come along with men who did not want to be Fundamentalists, and they move over more into the center with the ecumenicals and so there is a lot of confusion in the use of these words. I think that with what has developed now in the political arena where they are using the phrase "born-again," an effort is going to be made and is being made to discredit the Fundamentalists because they are the ones that use this terminology. Well, we are just not going to let them do it. We do not intend to let them do it. In the areas where they put out these things that are abusive to us we are just going to rise up and say, Just a minute!
I brought with me to the pulpit this morning a leaflet that was distributed in the church calendar a couple of Sundays ago out here in Elizabethtown, Pa., in a Lutheran Church. The woman who sent it to me writes, "We are enclosing a tract on Fundamentalism that was given to us. Thought you would like to see and read it. A member of the Lutheran Church gave it to us and it was given to all the people that were in church one Sunday with their church program. This church has a woman preacher. We wonder if other Lutheran churches did the same or if you heard anything. Since your name is mentioned, we thought you would be interested in it. This is a NCC Church." This tract is put out by Lutheran Publications. But they do it in the name of Evangelical Outreach, and their headquarters are over here on Queen Street in Philadelphia. Beloved, this is designed as an attack to discredit the Fundamentalists in the present election campaign, and it is put out in a Lutheran church in the church calendar for all the people to see. "What you should know about Fundamentalism," that is the title.
Well, I am not going to read it all to you. I do not intend to do that, but after they get through speaking of us in rather derogatory terms, they have themselves all mixed up, and I think they have tried to mix it up. For instance they say, "The influence of Fundamentalism has grown steadily over the years. Popular evangelists such as D. L. Moody, Carl McIntire and Billy Graham are a few of the more famous persons often associated with the Fundamentalist movement."
Frankly I would like to see Billy Graham's reaction when he gets a copy of this, because he long ago repudiated the Fundamentalists and also the Neo- Evangelicals and he is over on the ecumenical side. Now this is the use of the election in this church to get at these Fundamentalists, to condition the people in the church in relation to them and born-again politics.
When this develops, then a man like myself who is a Fundamentalist must step up and seek to clarify this matter and to get into the election with the proper issues that are of real concern to really born-again people.
II. The Westminster Confession of Faith
We have a Confession of Faith, which is the confession of our denomination, which we have all subscribed to. Here is the paragraph, a whole chapter on "Of the Civil Magistrate" (chap XXIII).
"I. God, the Supreme Lord and King of all the world, hath ordained civil magistrates to be under him over the people, for his own glory and the public good: and, to this end, hath armed them with the power of the sword, for the defense and encouragement of them that are good, and for the punishment of evil doers." Now that is paragraph number one, and it is right on the Bible. God's establishment here is the 13th chapter of Romans they are ministers of God to us for good. But when they get to the place where they are not so good, our Revolutionary Fathers decided they were not too good and they took action to break that bond and so we developed the United States of America so we would have a society and an order which would be of good to as.
Paragraph 11: "It is lawful for Christians [now here is the word Christian; here we are born-again individuals] to accept and execute the office of a magistrate [a Christian can be a president, a Christian can be a mayor, a Christian can be a judge, a civil magistrate] when called thereunto [that is, if he is elected or appointed] : in the managing whereof, as they ought especially to maintain piety, justice, and peace, according to the wholesome laws of each commonwealth."
Who is going to produce the wholesome laws of the commonwealth? This is your Confession of Faith. "They ought especially to maintain piety, justice, and peace, according to the wholesome laws of each commonwealth; so, for that end, they may lawfully, now under the New Testament, wage war upon just and necessary occasions."
We Presbyterians have never been pacifists, and our Constitution and our Declaration of Faith confirms it. But there is a concept of the magistrate and of the Christian participating, the Christian being responsible for what you call wholesome laws and the responsibility of a Christian, or today, a born-again person, and that is the issue. It is "Born-Again Politics" now in the public mind for a born-again person to become deeply involved and recognize his duty and his responsibility under God for the society where he lives.
Now perhaps this is the area where the Fundamental pulpits have let our people down to some degree. The Fundamentalists have been involved in all these activities, and they do not want to get involved in politics, as they say, and their people have not been properly instructed. That is why your pastor especially is where he is in the stand that he has taken on these things. We are not a little narrow ten-point Fundamentalist church at all. We are a Christian church. We are a church that takes the great creeds of the Church like our own Westminster Confession with all of its full-orbed doctrine and the system that is there and we make it a part of our very hearts and then it affects our decisions and our conduct wherever we go in business, in government, in education, or whatever field in which we happen to serve the Lord.
So I have given you the Bible. I have given you the Confession of Faith. Now let us turn, if you will, to the Constitution of the United States. How does it start? "We the people [that includes you, me] of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice [where do you get your ideas of justice?], ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity [that includes you and me], do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Fundamentalists, born-again people, helped do this in the beginning, and if it is going to be preserved, Fundamentalists, born-again people, are going to have to be in the forefront of the battle to preserve it.
Now, of course, we have a Pledge of Allegiance, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America," and then you come on down, "one nation under God." "Under God!" When you go to the Senate chamber in Washington, and you go into the gallery, and when you look up at where the Vice-President presides, as he sits there, the first thing you see before you look at him is just above his head, chiseled in an immense piece of granite, are the words, "In God We Trust." Everything done in the Senate of the United States, every vote taken, every amendment made, every decision is made with the Vice-President sitting there, and over his head are the words, "In God We Trust."
What are we going to do about it? Now this comes into the area of born-again politics. We are people, born again. This is the area where you find people who talk about serving God and trusting God. When you read that Preamble to the Constitution, it says so clearly that we are to "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves." In other words, this Constitution was to structure a society in which liberty, liberty, liberty, would be primary and we would all seek to preserve that liberty so every man would be able to have the blessings of that liberty.
My, what concepts these are, but here they are the Bible, the Creed, the Constitution, and now the election of 1980. When we come down to the fact that four years ago President Carter introduced the phrase, "born again," we see that he did it obviously to secure certain political support, which he did obtain. In fact, he carried the State of Texas, and there are all kinds of born-again people in the State of Texas who voted for him because of that, and he received a majority of a million and one-half votes, we understand. The bornagain people were sufficient in number to have given him that. But as you look at it, the blacks claim it, too, and the unionists claim it, too, everyone claims they had the margin of a million and one-half votes.
The introduction of the born-again question into the political arena came four years ago, and resulted in the bringing up of this question in the 1980 campaign, too. They call it "Born-again 'politics."' I am very happy that it has happened. I am thankful that it has put the Fundamentalists all over the country right up at the top! Now the press and the media are attempting and will attempt to discredit the Fundamentalists by the election. The ecumenicals will use the "evangelicals" to discredit the Fundamentalists! We take a position which has always been the position of the Christian in this country before he was deceived and diverted and these other things came along and entered into his thinking. Remember it is the position which we Fundamentalists have that gave us what we have in our Constitution and in our concepts of liberty to begin with.
III. Born-Again Obedience to God
Now with that let us move a little further into this area of just how the Fundamentalists' views do become related specifically to these questions that we are facing at the present moment. Before I mention that, I must say that we all have the privilege of a secret ballot. You go into a voting booth and each voter has one vote. No one looks over your shoulder. No one tells you what to do. You are in secret and you vote as you feel God wants you to vote. You have a question of conscience which relates to your country and its welfare. You have a question of conscience that relates to the men that you are asked to vote for. You have a basic question of conscience, and that secret ballot at that point in your society has been given to you so that you would be free before God to vote for what you think is best for your country or for your state or for your city. It is a glorious privilege. And it is a vote that only God knows.
Why Have We Let It Slip
Oh, what a concept that was when our fathers laid down such concepts as these for us in this beautiful land of ours! Why have we let it slip? Why has the Christian church gone so astray? Why have we moved the way we have, and why have the Fundamentalists not brought these things to the people? One reason is when a preacher gets up to preach like this, they say, "Oh, my, my preacher is preaching in politics; I don't go to church to hear that." That is wrong. You go to church to hear what the Bible says, and when the Bible deals with the civil magistrate and the Bible deals with these great moral questions, we are going to speak of them here. You cannot evade them, and it is the duty of the pastor and the preacher to get up and say so. When some people say, "Well, why didn't our preacher tell us? I go to a church where my preacher never discusses any of these things. We do not know what is going on." And so you get it both ways. One way they do not want him to talk about it; one way they blame him for not talking about it. The answer is that God's people who love their liberty and love their God and love their country are anxious to have their preacher get up in the pulpit and point out some of these great things so that their conscience and their enlightened mind and their understanding of the Word of God can give them the decision that they have to make, not for me, not for the church, but for you before your God.
Now as you will notice in this first epistle of John and that 5th chapter which we read, John connected this with the kind of conduct that we have, and he makes it very, very specific. He says in that 5th chapter (I John), "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments."
The loving of God includes the keeping of His commandments, and you do not deny it. We all accept it. We are a people who want to manifest our love to God, and the way we do it is to keep His commandments.
Now I am going to take just one or two of them, make them very simple, very clear to you. Take for example the command, "Thou shalt not steal." It is in the Bible. We love it. The Confession of Faith of your church has a whole section in it on the Larger and Shorter Catechism and it has these question after question. "What are the sins forbidden in the eighth commandment?" "Thou shalt not steal." What are the sins of omission? what is required? and what are the sins that violate this law? What you find here is the property system, a land where you and I live on the basis of private ownership, and we trade our properties by means of contracts, and we deal with each other on the basis of contracts one with another. All business, all of us, all houses, everything is on a basis of contract. Now this is not related to the government. We have a free, open market in these areas. You can buy and sell - at least you used to be able to, before we began to get some of these restraints that we have upon us. But this whole concept under that command, "Thou shalt not steal," protects your house, your church, your money, your automobile, your farm. It protects your right to possess. Then in come the thieves, in come the robbers, and how they steal from us in so many, many ways. Consequently, in that area alone every Christian ought to be sharp in his thinking and his appraisal of what is being done to us when it comes to taking our property from us. This has to do with your heavy taxes. It has to do with the bureaucrats. It has to do with all sorts of things. It is an area here where things are being taken from you that goes beyond the boundary of the lawful and legitimate place which God has given as He ordained the State. I cannot understand why business and professional men today would even go to church where this command is being undermined. They do not have discernment enough to realize it. But when they come to a church such as ours and I get up and present these things from the Bible and the Confession of Faith, here is our whole property system and here is our government coming in in relationship to it.
All right, let us get some candidates; let us get some men that we can support. Let us get men involved who will recognize the limitations that God has put upon the State over us.
Take the command, "Thou shalt not commit adultery." That is one that is especially grievous and heinous at the present time. We hate even to speak about it. But we read this past week that our government last year spent five billion dollars of tax money taking care of illegitimate children and families that come out of the complete violation of that command - five billion dollars of our tax money went into it! Somewhere along the line there ought to be someone to cry out, but they will not. There is no moral restraint. No. no, these do not concern us any more. We are not involved in it. We just want to take care of this and we will pay the bill.
It is the same way with this whole area of sex education that we are dealing with. It just blows in your face; every time you turn around you pick it up in the news media. You are getting it now in the schools and they give you all this detailed information. But there is no use of the word fornication, no use of the word adultery, no use of the word sin A woman that liveth in sin she is dead while she liveth. This whole area of moral restraint is completely eliminated, and the result of it is an aggravation of the evil, lustful nature of man which breaks forth into various crimes that follow.
We cannot ignore these things as born-again people. We just cannot do it. You go right down the rest of these 10 commands, and just look at them, what the Lord says about the home, about sinning, and about covetousness.
IV. Solomon's Wisdom and Commands
Turn with me to Proverbs 29:2: "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." The people are mourning. Verse 4 says, "The king by judgment establisheth the land." Do you know why people voted for Mr. Carter on the basis of the born again idea? They thought, Well, if he is a born-again man, he will be a good President and he will exercise judgment and he will do a lot of nice things, and the effect of being born again in the mind of the Christian carried over to their vote for President Carter four years ago. That is what happened. It really did. And look at this text, "The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it." Our papers are full of scandals of this nature, men accepting gifts.
Now come on down a little farther, verse 12, "If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked." You just give me a President that believes the lies that people tell him on every hand, you say, Just go and tell him what you want to, he will believe you. "All his servants are wicked."
Look at verse 16, "When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth." Look at verse 27, "An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked." Oh, Christians, that is our guide, that is our Book, that is our command. These are things that God is telling us. This is "Born-Again Politics."
Now I said that I wanted to get rather specific with you and I would like to point out a few of these things that I am sure will be of interest to you. Did you see the headline in the paper this week, the Philadelphia Journal, "Commies Paid Kids To Race Riot" in Philadelphia? And here is a story of this riot they had over there. "Three days of rioting, that erupted in the wake of last month's shooting death of a North Philadelphia black youth at the hands of a white policeman, was fueled by militant agitators associated with the Communist Workers Party." It goes on and gives the name, identification, explains how they were moving in over there to take charge of a lot of money. How do they do it? How do they get in there? Who lets them do it? Who is responsible for it? Well, we do not care; we do not pay any attention; nobody looks into it. We do not have anybody asking about these questions.
There are two men who are running for re-election this year in the United States Senate that I am specially interested in. One of them is Senator McGovern from out in Dakota, and we have quite a few churches out there in Dakota that are Fundamental churches. McGovern was the chairman of the committee that set up the World Council's Program to Combat Racism. He chaired it. He has backed it; he has been to Africa to help it. That is the program that has given all these multiplied thousands and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the revolutionaries, the Communists in South Africa.
They have recently given another large sum of money to the Communists in Namibia, which is Southwest Africa. This is the committee that George McGovern is connected with, and he has had a place of leadership in the World Council of Churches.
South Dakota Should Know About McGovern
I do not have any hesitancy as the president of the ICCC and as the pastor of this church in pointing these things out, and your pastor is writing a letter now to the Fundamental churches in South Dakota and I am going to spell all this out for them. I am going to ask them to go to their congregations on Sunday and present them with this information. They need to know that their Senator is the one that had to do with setting up this whole program to use church money to combat racism in Africa. What happened? They took over Angola; they took over Mozambique; they financed these guerrillas that finally got in charge and in control of what used to be Rhodesia. Now they are getting into Namibia, and here it goes. He helps the Communists. These church people do not know that. They are not aware of that.
After I visited Vietnam, soon after my return, published a story in the Beacon. I went up into the Fire Support Bases; we went back in on the trails; one of the military men in charge of a base said, "Pastor, I want to show you this." And down on the base out there, our men out there in the bushes picked up these leaflets that Hanoi had left on the trail, and they had the quotation of Senator George McGovern that the enemy was using to undermine the morale of our boys. I have that literature. I am going to photograph it and put it in South Dakota. This type of thing has to be known in our Fundamental churches. But they do not know it. Nobody is telling them. McGovern has-been used as a United States Senator to help our nation's enemies.
Now let us take another one in whom your pastor is very much interested. He is Idaho's Senator Frank Church. Senator Frank Church is head of the Foreign Relations Committee of your United States Senate. We have his voting record, the things that he has voted for. But the thing that concerns me most is that when he was having several of these hearings down there on one or two of these very important questions, he did have come into the hearings representatives of the National Council of Churches to present their views. But when I wanted to be heard representing our Fundamentalists and I wanted to get in there and be heard representing our International Council, Senator Church would not let me in. He let them in, but he did not let the Fundamentalists in. When you look at Senator Church's record and what the man has been doing in the affairs of our nation, he has really, really been helping the Communists and following the State Department's line in these areas.
On the other hand, the man that is opposing him is a Steven Symms. Do you people remember when we lost all our appeals on WXUR and we were completely down to nothing - we had absolutely nothing - and we thought maybe if we could get a bill introduced into Congress to have Congress Put WXUR back on the air itself, which was our last initiative, do you know who was one of the Congressmen who signed that bill for us? Mr. Symms. He did it. I met him down there one day and he spoke to me.
He said, "Dr. McIntire, it is the most terrible thing they have done to you in denying you your free speech and your liberty." He said, "Sure, I will' introduce a bill."
He signed it one year and the next year he introduced it again. I was on several stations in Idaho. But after we lost WXUR, my voice was cut off from Idaho. Those stations would not take me; they were afraid of the FCC. Well, I am going to write letters now to the Fundamental churches in Idaho, and I am going to tell them this. They have a right to know how to vote as born-again Christians. If your broadcast had not been cut down in '73 because of the killing of WXUR, as I stand in this pulpit, our broadcast would still be heard on many of those stations in Idaho. In the last seven years how much of an influence and impact would we have had in the State of Idaho among the Christian people if I had been able to talk like I ought to have talked? I am not going to stand and in this pulpit and let these men destroy our liberties and not inform these Christians-and these Fundamental churches. It is my duty under God to tell these things!
The election will be over on the 4th and it will be another story after that, but you are getting into Congress, you are getting into legislatures, you are getting into these areas. Now they have these checklists, and I want to get the checklists now on our various men and here they are, how they stood on abortion, how they stood on prayer and Bible reading in school, how they stood on a balanced budget, how they stood on forced busing, how they stood on ERA. It all checks out. There are enough Fundamental, Bible-believing, born-again people in this country right now, that if they could get this information, they would stand up like they ought to stand up and express it in the ballot box, it would make the big difference. Let us do it born-again saint of God!
When I spoke to the chapel in Faith Seminary and later to the college students at their chapel I told our young people - these entering students are completely open to these things. You get registered to vote, an absentee ballot, from your town wherever you are, get it, and if you cannot get it, register in Cape May before the deadline and then get in and let your vote count. That is what I told the college students.
The hippie-yippie college students in these other schools are all doing it. I want you people who are members of the Collingswood Church to see you are all registered, we are all voting, and I would like to see if we cannot talk to our neighbors and friends. Let us get to the born-again people - that is the issue now. In fact, if I could get a sticker I would put a sticker on the back of my car, "Born-again?" and just go around the country with "Born-again?"
Are you born again? Raise these questions. We did not lift this question up before, but it has been lifted up in the political arena and now it has become a major issue in the present election. We Christians, we Fundamentalists should not close our eyes to what is happening. We should step out in this discussion. Do you know what will happen as a result of it? You wait and see. One of these days I am going to come into this pulpit and I am going to tell you I met somebody, and start talking about being born again, and the first thing I will tell you is that I led him to Christ. You can, you must use the election to evangelize!
We have an opportunity in speaking about these things in the political arena right now to get down to the question, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again," (John 3:6, 7).
If the door opens for me to go to Idaho, I am going to fly out there and speak in one of those Fundamental churches. I will go to South Dakota and speak there. We have churches; we have friends, but these issues that I have told you about right now concern bornagain Christians and concern what is happening and the way this thing is moving. Unless we use our liberty and use it inside the church and among Christian people, we are going to suffer far greater loss. If we cannot turn it around, we will at least be a restraining influence.
Thank God for Born-Again Politics in 1980. To God be the Glory. Watch what every preacher says and does. Everyone is placed in the position that if he is born again, he ought to cry out against corruption and crime, against wickedness in high places. Satan must not obtain the victory. I have said now for 25 years, Let us put more Christianity into the patriot and more patriotism in the Christian. The Election for 1980 gives us an opportunity. I have also said, "Freedom is everybody's business, your business, my business, the churches' business; and the man who will not use his freedom to defend his freedom does not deserve his freedom."
Fundamentalists, the hour is yours. By God's help let us preach and pray. Let us work and win; let us give God the glory, for "Blessed is that nation whose God is the Lord." Let no man stop us, let no man intimidate us. Separation of church and state is in no way related to our right to be born again and to our right to put born again people who will act like it to serve as our civil magistrates under God.
Arise Fundamentalists, our highest honor is upon us! Every penny tells us "In God We Trust." Let us unite and put men in power who do just that. Any man who will use American money and power to help the Communists take over the world has no business being placed in a position of civil and political power in this nation. The born-again people know the truth and they should put men in places of leadership who will - honor God's Ten Commandments in everything that they do. The Bible is clear, to "fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Fundamentalists, our hour has come. Fight, the battle is the Lord's.
